## ## Sarah Rempel (Troop 60321) and Meena Visvanathan (Troop 60090) received Gold Awards, the highest honor in Girl Scouts. To earn the award, Scouts must complete three interest projects and one Studio 2B Focus book, spend 30 hours in a leadership role, complete 40 hours of career exploration, earn the Girl Scout Gold 4Bs Challenge Award and spend 65 hours planning and executing a project designed to benefit the community.
Rempel, a 2009 graduate of Mountain View High School, received her Gold Award for building cabinets to house water jugs and other equipment for the Mountain View High School Music Department. The old water jug cabinets were poorly constructed and had sustained serious damage. The new cabinets allow easier access and more secure storage.
Rempel received the first Gold Award Knot, awarded by Crew 37 from her Crew adviser, Bob Lee. Crew is a coed branch of Scouts.
Visvanathan worked with Maitri, an organization that helps Southeast Asian women overcome the consequences of domestic violence. She assisted Maitri in the reorganization of its Transitional House and organized the donation of kitchen items and appliances.
Eleven girls earned the Silver Award, the second highest honor in Girl Scouts. To earn the award, Scouts must complete four interest projects and one Studio 2B Focus book, spend 15 hours in a leadership role and earn the Girl Scout Silver 4Bs.
